Notre Dame acknowledges investigation
Notre Dame is investigating suspected academic dishonesty on the part of several students, including four football players, the University acknowledged on Friday afternoon.
The school will stage a 6 p.m. press conference to address the subject following multiple reports on the subject that named cornerback KeiVarae Russell, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore.
The University statement did not name the players but indicated the four under investigation would not practice until the completion of the inquiry. If they are found to have been ineligible during games during past seasons, Notre Dame could vacate wins in which they participated.
Notre Dame informed the NCAA of its investigation today.
“Integrity is at the heart of our mission and academic misconduct will not be tolerated at Notre Dame,” said Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., the University’s president in a statement. “If the suspected improprieties are proven, we will use the experience to reinforce among our students the importance of honesty in all that they do. We are also examining ways of better conveying to students that they can avail themselves of legitimate academic assistance without resorting to cheating.”
“The University is committed to thorough resolution of this matter, consistent with its commitment to academic integrity and adherence to NCAA rules," Father Jenkins said.
