Whitehead, Lincoln Next Level South Shore
CANARSIE, NY - It was a battle between two PSAL Brooklyn Class AA rivals on Sunday. Adrenaline and pride kept the score tight between South Shore and NYCHoops.net #2 ranked Abraham Lincoln for the first three quarters.
That is until Seton Hall bound Isaiah Whitehead took his game to the next level, scoring 16 of his game high 35 points in the final quarter en route to a compelling 70-54 victory for the Railsplitters.
With each of his six three pointers throughout the game, Whitehead gave the South Shore home crowd a three-fingered salute as the Railsplitters pulled ahead by 15 points late in the first half. Devyn Wilson finally got the fans pumped as he nailed a trey that sparked a 6-0 Vikings run.
Lincoln pushed their lead back to double digits as Whitehead and point guard A.J. Williams stepped it up. Wilson would once again keep hope alive for the Canarsie squad as the senior drained another trifecta as the first half bled out. The Railsplitters were only holding on to a slim 31-28 lead.
South Shore came out pumped buoyed by their home court crowd but fell short on a chance to tie the game from the free-throw line. The combination of big man Thomas Holley, Lincoln's inside enforcer and Vikings turnovers would preserve the Railsplitter's lead in the third quarter. A late surge by South Shore would close the gap to two points with a minute forty remaining in the quarter but Lincoln held onto a 4 point advantage to start the fourth quarter.
Doudmy St. Hilaire who attacked the rim consistently gave South Shore their first and only lead at 45-44. It was at the moment that Whitehead put the team on his back sparking an 8 point run with three buckets and an assist. 3:35 remained in regulation and the Railsplitters were up by ten.
Smelling blood, Lincoln kept their foot on the pedal, extending their lead to 16 before time ran out. Williams added to Lincoln's point total with 17 points with Desi Rodriguez and Holley contributing 6 and 5 point respectively. Wilson was high man for South Shore with 13 point followed by St. Hilaire with 11 points.
