Nike Combine: Standout performances

MORE: NLA notebook

This time of year the NFL Combine is drawing a lot of attention, so it was only fitting to be at the Nike Combine in The Woodlands on Saturday as prospects from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas made their way to the Houston area to put their best feet forward.

Vic Enwere, 2014 RB, Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin - 120.51
Enwere blew away the field on Saturday. He easily claimed the highest SPARQ rating by six full points. Enwere measured in at 6-foot, 210 and posted a 41-inch vertical jump and a 4.61 FAT 40. The Fort Bend Austin running back was a known prospect coming into the day. He holds offers from SMU, Rice, Colorado and Utah, and junior day invitations have come from the likes of Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Houston and TCU. As a junior, he rushed for 1,208 yards and 16 TDs and he earned 23-5A Offensive MVP honors.

Craig McWilliams, 2014 CB, Pflugerville (Texas) Pflugerville - 114.42
Enwere came into the day as a known prospect, but second place goes to a guy who is a little off the radar. McWilliams can play safety or cornerback at 5-11, 172 pounds. He ran a 4.58 FAT 40 and a 4.12 shuttle time. His vertical leap topped 37 inches. He has shown the athleticism and tested well at other combines.

Gabe Fuselier, 2014 WR, St. Martinville (La.) Catholic - 113.28
Fuselier came into Texas and dropped a 4.45 FAT 40. Then he went 4.03 in the shuttle and was just shy of 35 inches in the vertical. As a junior, he caught 59 passes for 1,054 yards and 14 touchdowns on his way to first-team all-area and all-district honors and honorable-mention all-state. Fuselier measured in at 5-10, 175 Saturday.

Forrest Town, 2014 RB, Zachary (La.) Zachary - 113.28
Tied with Fuselier at 113.28, the Louisiana guys seemed to be drawn to the number. Town went about accumulating it differently, though. He posted a vertical leap of 40 inches and ran a 4.55 FAT 40 to go with a 4.28 shuttle time. As a junior, Town earned first-team all-district honors. He is seeing the college interest pick up.

Zach Vaughan, 2014 DE, Round Rock (Texas) McNeil - 112.56
Rounding out the top five is Vaughan. The Austin-area defensive end measured in at 6-4, 218 pounds and ran a 4.79 FAT 40 and a 4.19 shuttle. Vaughan has been a standout over the years and holds offers from Colorado, Houston, Rice and Texas Tech.

Underclassmen to watch

Toby Weathersby, 2015 OL, Spring (Texas) Westfield
I'll just admit this kid immediately caught my attention when I saw him at the camp. He seemed to move well with little bad weight on his 6-4, 280-pound frame. He also had a 40 in the powerball toss.

Ed Oliver, 2016 DT, Spring (Texas) Westfield
Like his teammate Weathersby, Oliver passes the eyeball test at 6-1, 280. He posted a 37 in the powerball toss and is the younger brother of 2014 D1 prospect Marcus Oliver. It is still early, but he has the look of a prospect who could follow in the mold of past Westfield D-linemen Desmond Jackson (Texas 2011), Anthony Smith (Texas Tech 2012), and Hardreck Walker (Texas A&M 2013).

Deunte Chatman, 2015 RB, Humble (Texas) Summer Creek
At just under 6-foot and 210 pounds Chatman, was one of two 2015 prospects to go over the 100-point mark on the SPARQ rating. He ran a 4.55 40 and posted a vertical leap of 35 inches. His total score was 104.61 on the day.

Nathan Fox, 2015 LB, Houston (Texas) Clear Lake
Fox moves well and has the size colleges covet in linebackers. His highlight tape is solid, and he is receiving early interest from Oregon and Indiana.

Corey Sanders, 2016 QB, The Woodlands (Texas) The Woodlands
With quarterbacks, the SPARQ rating is not everything and you cannot see anything but pure athletic ability at a combine. However, it was hard not to take notice of 6-3, 205-pound freshman. He has a long frame and is a guy to keep an eye on.

Nahshon Ellerbe, 2015 RB, Addison (Texas) Trinity Christian Academy
At 5-9, 182 pounds, Ellerbe catches attention for his 39-inch vertical leap. As a sophomore, he rushed for 939 yards and 18 touchdowns. Rice is showing interest.

Morie Evans, 2015 ATH, Huntsville (Texas) Huntsville
At 5-11, 180 pounds, Evans is a solidly built prospect who can play a number of positions. He earned second-team all-district honors as a sophomore and reports a TCU offer. In addition to the Horned Frogs, he says, Oregon is showing interest. On Saturday, he posted a 90.96 SPARQ rating.

Kameron Martin, 2016 RB, Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial
Martin measured in at 5-8, 159 pounds but the standout has already firmly planted himself on the radars of college coaches after starting on varsity as a freshman. He is receiving interest from Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and LSU.

Top prospects top 100

Arrion Springs, 2014 S, San Antonio (Texas) Roosevelt
Springs has seen the offers mount. Baylor, Oklahoma, Kansas, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech have offered, and several other programs are showing strong interest. On Saturday Springs did not disappoint, measuring in at 5-11, 185 pounds, and posting a 4.66 40, a 4.26 shuttle, a 33.5 powerball toss, and a 34 vertical for a score of 107.07.

Rodney Anderson, 2015 RB, Katy (Texas) Katy
Anderson is one of the top 2015s on the scene with Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, and Baylor showing interest. He posted the top SPARQ rating for the 2015 prospects in attendance with a 109.29. He measured in at 6-foot, 196 pounds, and posted a 4.63 40, a 4.13 shuttle, a 35.5 in the powerball toss and just shy of 37 in the vertical.

Under the radar over 100

Bobby Hartzog, 2014 WR, Houston (Texas) Westside
Hartzog earned first-team all-district honors as a junior after recording 35 receptions for 654 yards and nine TDs. He measured in at 5-10.5, 178 pounds, and posted a SPARQ rating of 110.91. He ran a 4.49 40 and had a vertical leap over 37 inches. He is receiving interest from Michigan State, TCU, and Utah.

Jordan Washington, 2014 S, Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson
Washington played for one of the top teams in the Austin area in 2012, and on Saturday the safety posted big numbers in Houston. At 5-11, 186 pounds, he put up a 39 in the powerball toss and went over 38 inches in the vertical for an overall score of 108.72. Washington is receiving interest from Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, Arizona, Missouri, UTSA and Texas State.

Trai Mosley, 2014 CB, Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson
Mosley is a little undersized at 5-8, 163 pounds, but pound for pound he brings it as well as anyone. He is a defensive leader for Hendrickson. On Saturday, he posted a 4.63 40, a 38 in the powerball toss and 36.6 in the vertical. He is receiving interest from Arizona, Texas State, UTSA, Missouri, and Tulane.

Andrew Aneke, 2014 CB, Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Elkins
Aneke is a tall cornerback at 5-11, 177 pounds. He punched in with a 104.73 SPARQ rating and a 37.4 vertical leap. He is receiving interest from Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Baylor.

Marlon Walls, 2014 S, Pearland (Texas) Pearland
Walls is a stout safety and has the look of a nickel back. He has experience at linebacker. On Saturday, he posted a 100.95 SPARQ rating and measured in at 5-9.5, 182 pounds. He is receiving interest from LSU, Texas A&M and Texas.

Deshun Gibson, 2014 CB, Clinton (Miss.) Clinton
Gibson traveled a long way to compete on Saturday, and he made the most of his opportunity by posting a SPARQ rating of 104.25. At 6-foot, 200 pounds, he is receiving interest from Nebraska.

News names on my radar

Trenton Ball, 2014 TE, Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert
The 6-6, 233-pound tight end recorded eight receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown in 2012, and he is receiving interest from Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Nebraska and Missouri.

Connor Lanfear, 2015 OL, Buda (Texas) Hays
Lanfear measured in at 6-5, 261 pounds, and has a great frame. He does not have much bad weight, and his highlight reel is impressive. He is hearing from Oklahoma State, Princeton and Oregon.

Justin Hollins, 2014 DE, Arlington (Texas) Grace Prep
Hollins is a lean defensive end prospect at 6-5, 205 pounds, but he has a nice combination of size and athleticism that will catch attention. He is hearing from Indiana, TCU, SMU, Colorado State and Purdue.

Andre Willard, 2014 LB, Conway (Ark.) Conway
Willard has the look of an inside linebacker. He is a 6-2 linebacker with meat on him. He is attracting interest from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Memphis.

Arthur McGinnis, 2015 LB, New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton
McGinnis measured in at 6-2, 204 and has an impressive frame. He posted a 92.04 SPARQ rating on the afternoon and is a guy to keep an eye on in Louisiana.
