Fuller earns MVP honors

Roman Catholic High School is marching into the postseason with the 4A Catholic League Most Valuable Player on its side.

Notre Dame commitment William Fuller found out on Thursday he’d achieved his goal of earning the league award.

“My coach just let me know,” said Fuller, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound wide receiver from Philadelphia, Pa. “I’m excited. It was a goal of mine in my senior year.”

Fuller also appeared on the all-Catholic League awards list as a first team wide receiver. Through eight games, Fuller has caught 45 passes for 729 yards with six touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was on a kick return.

Roman Catholic opens the playoffs on Saturday against La Salle College High School. Fuller believes the Cahillites are ready to make a long run.

“We’re picking it up,” he said. “I feel great and everyone is locked in.”

The Cahillites also have a traditional Thanksgiving Day game at Roxborough yet to be played.

Fuller, who has another visit to Notre Dame scheduled for Nov. 17, still feels the effects of his last trip to South Bend.

He was on campus on Oct. 20 when Notre Dame defeated BYU, 17-14.

“It was awesome,” he said. “That was my first game. I got to meet some of the commits, but the biggest thing was the atmosphere. It was crazy how loud the crowd got. I had chills the whole game. I love it there.”

Fuller enjoyed meeting and mingling with the other Notre Dame commitments that attended the game.

“It was cool,” he said. “Everyone was comfortable with each other, like we already have been playing with each other.”

The Notre Dame coaches let Fuller know they were just as excited as he was about his future in South Bend.

“I always talk with coach (Chuck) Martin,” Fuller said. “He was saying how excited the staff is and how he is going to use me. He didn’t really go into detail, but it will be heavy slot (receiver). Coach (Brian) Kelly joked around one time (about defensive back), but I’m sure I’m going to be on offense.”

On Thursday, the Irish added Cole Luke, a four-star defensive back, to their recruiting class. Fuller was excited to add another quality player into the mix.

“It’s great,” he said. “I can’t wait for all of us to get together and play.”
