SCV Combine Story Lines

NEWBERRY, SC - With less than 30 days remaining until the SCVarsity All-State Football Combine, the stories are beginning to take shape as hundreds of top football players will converge on the campus of Newberry College for the Southeast's top football combine.

QQUARTERBACK CHALLENGE

The quarterback group is going to be fantastic, as usual, and the bids for the top gun award will be hot. Bluffton's C.J. Frazier led the Bobcats to a 3A State title appearance this past season and in the process placed himself second on the all-time list in South Carolina high school football for touchdown passes in a season - 56. Frazier finished the season completing 202 of 349 passes for 3,577 yards with those 56 scores. He will be competing against some of the top talent in the state and some of the match ups to keep an eye on are with Stratford's Jacob Park, Gaffney's Luke Lancaster, Irmo's Grant Davitte, and Richland Northeast's A.C. Whaley. Park and Lancaster are both rising juniors, while Davitte and Whaley are in the Class of 2013 with Frazier. Olympic HS (NC) sophomore Robert Tinsley will be another strong underclassman competing for the Top Gun award. One new-comer to SC who will be strong in this group is rising senior Cody Turner of North Augusta; this 6-2, 190lbs junior just transferred in from Georgia and will be a big asset to the Yellow Jackets' offensive fire power.

CCOVER MAN

For the first time ever, our Combine's Top Player will be getting more than just a plaque. This year, the event's best player as voted on by the coaches will be getting the cover of the 2012 Blue Chip Scouting Report which will be released in August. (See below image)

PRIVATE SCHOOL AND HOMESCHOOL

This year we will have more private school talent and for the first time ever, players from the home school team, Anderson Cavaliers, will be in attendance. The South Carolina Independent Schools Association have been sending players to the next level in increasing numbers of the past few seasons and we feel we have a couple of the best in the state coming in. Ben Lippen running back Tyler Renew and Heathwood Hall wide receiver Shelton Whitaker. Renew is 6-0, 190 and rushed for 1760 yards and 23 TD's while missing 2 games last season as a junior. Whitaker is a 6-4, 185lbs athlete who had 30 receptions for more than 800 yards as a junior for the Highlanders. The Anderson Cavaliers, a home school team who competes in league in Georgia will be bringing several players to compete against the state's best.
