Weah makes his way over for junior day
Jester Weah as another high school prospect who enjoyed his time at Wisconsin's junior day on Saturday.Chalk up
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Weah, a wide receiver from Madison (WI) Memorial High School, made the quick trip to visit his hometown Badgers, and got some face-time with the Wisconsin coaches.
"It was fun," Weah told BadgerBlitz.com Monday night. "We got there, registered, had a little quick breakfast, then coach (Bret) Bielema spoke to all the prospects about what the day was going to be like. Then we were all split into position groups."
Like many other in-state prospects, Weah has been in contact with Wisconsin's new offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Canada had previous experience recruiting Wisconsin during his time at Northern Illinois, and it doesn't seem like he's wasted any time getting to know his now in-state prospects.
"I spoke with offensive coordinator Matt Canada during lunch, and I spoke with my position coach (Zach Azzanni) towards the end of the day," Weah said. "They're very nice and they keep it real.
"This was my first time meeting (Canada) and I think we have a pretty good relationship so far."
Like many other prospects, Weah didn't receive a scholarship offer during junior day. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen in the future.
"They didn't say much about an offer, but they were talking about walking on to all the prospects," Weah said. "They said most of the recruits get offered when they attend the camp over the summer.
"Coach said they will probably take one wide receiver in this class, so you're going to have to prove yourself."
Weah plans on attending Wisconsin's summer camp and has been invited to Yale's summer camp as well. Time will tell if Weah's performance in camp nets him a home-state offer, but for now the Badgers are definitely in the discussion.
"They're pretty high on the list," Weah said,
In addition to the Badgers, Weah has received letters from Iowa and Iowa State in the past few months. Weah is also hoping to set up an unofficial visit with the Badgers sometime in March.
