Cast Sports breaks down the Dream Team
Two days from now some of Georgia's top targets will compete at Dawg Night in Sanford Stadium. Last year's event was a success as the Dawgs received two commitments and sent out a number of offers that resulted in commitments. This year will likely see a new batch of offers go out as well. But how do the coaches decide which players to offer?
Well, the coaches rely in part on scouting reports from recruiting services. Over the last three years, Georgia has spent $118,256 on video services, analysis and statistical information on prospects.
We thought it would be interesting to see what one of these services thought about the Bulldogs' most recent signing class. We asked Derrick Crudup, the CEO of Cast Sports, if he would forward UGASports his analysis of the Dream Team members. Here is the final part of his breakdowns of the class of 2011. All of the heights, weights, positions, ratings and comments are taken directly from Crudup's files.
According to Crudup, "Offer if Must" is a note to coaches telling them to offer the player before they see the recruit in camp in order to not be left behind other schools. In other words, a camp performance is not necessary to offer this prospect since he is talented enough to offer sight unseen. Of course that is only if the school needs a player at that position.
Derrick Crudup was an All-American quarterback at Boca Raton High where he was recruited to play quarterback at Florida in 1983 by Mike Shanahan. Crudup later transferred to Oklahoma, playing under Barry Switzer where he won a National Championship in 1985. Shanahan once again came after Crudup and drafted him to the Oakland Raiders in 1988. In 1993, Crudup went back to Florida to coach high school football at Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Spanish River, and Pompano Beach. He coached more than 12 years as a defensive and offensive coordinator.
Crudup coached 10 NFL first-round draft picks. His son Derrick Jr. was recruited to play quarterback for the University of Miami. Derrick Jr. was a member of the 2002 National Championship. The Crudups hold the distinction of being the only father and son tandem to have won the National Championship in Division 1 College football history.
