ND snaps up Daly
Scott Daly had been waiting on a scholarship offer from Notre Dame and when it came he didn’t waste time acting on it.
The Notre Dame coaching staff offered Daly on Saturday morning before the Blue-Gold Game and shortly thereafter he was added to the commitment list, making three for the day.
“He’s been back and forth there a couple times,” said Chris Rubio, Daly’s long snapping coach. “He was just waiting to hear the word. He’s a longtime Notre Dame fan. He was just waiting to hear it. As soon as they did it, it was done.”
Daly also had a scholarship offer from Northwestern. Interest had flowed in from Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford and Wisconsin, among others.
In recent weeks the 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect had taken a few visits to Notre Dame for spring practices while also touring other schools in the Midwest. The level of interest from college programs reflects the type of efficiency with which Daly operates, Rubio says.
“He’s the top one in the Class of 2012,” Rubio said. “He had already been offered by Northwestern in January. He’s extremely athletic and smooth. Tremendous frame. He’s very, very hardworking. Two things him No. 1: He’s extremely smooth. He’s one of those kids that when he snaps the ball you’re like, ‘Ah, that’s OK.’ And then it just crushes your hand. It’s one of the fastest snaps in the country but it’s so smooth that it shocks you.”
Daly makes five commitments for Notre Dame in the Class of 2012.
