Showers talks in-depth about Florida visit

With Madison Heights (Mich) Madison three-star cornerback Valdez Showers firmly committed to Florida, there isn't a whole lot of suspense surrounding his weekend official visit with the Gators.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, who made the trip south with his mother and father, described to InsidetheGators.net what took place during the visit.

"We arrived Friday in Tampa around 3 p.m. or so," explained Showers. "We flew into Tampa where we were picked up by one of the Florida hosts (member of the recruiting support staff). They drove us back to Gainesville to the hotel. We went up to our rooms and got settled in. Then they take us out to eat.

"When we got back from eating, we get to go hang out with our hosts. Mine was (UF freshman defensive back) Joshua Shaw. We went back to his dorm and hung out. I threw a couple of questions at him to see what Florida's about and he told me he really likes the new coaching staff and he thinks they're going to have a good chance to win a championship. We hung out there and chilled for I couldn't tell you how long and then I went back to the hotel and went to bed that night.

"We woke up the next morning (Saturday) and did it all again basically. We got up, ate some breakfast and then took a tour of the campus and then we talked academics and met with the academic advisers."

This morning, the visiting prospects woke up to breakfast with the coaching staff.

"I talked to coach [Will] Muschamp and coach [Travaris] Robinson and a couple of the other recruits."

It may sound like it, but it wasn't the only interaction with the coaching staff. "The coaches are kind of mixed in the whole time," said Showers, who added that he hung out the most with fellow visitors Louchiez Purifoy and Ja'Juan Story.

When asked about the highlight of the weekend, Showers responded, "Just getting a better feel for Florida."

According to Showers, his commitment to the Gators remains firm.

"I believe it is 100% over," said Showers of the recruiting process. "You know, anything can happen, but I believe it's over."

It is interesting to note, that unlike the very first visit weekend, prospects weren't taken to Urban Meyer's house this time and according to Showers, they had no contact with the former Gator head coach.
