Hounshell committed, recruiting for UF
Chase Hounshell says he was "shocked" by the resignation of Urban Meyer, but says he remains fully committed to play for the Gators.Florida-commit
The Lake Catholic (Oh.) offensive tackle committed to Florida in August and was preparing to graduate high school later this month. By enrolling early, Hounshell figured he could enjoy the Florida's mild winter, get acclimated to college life, and begin competing for playing time on the offensive line.
"I'm still 100% committed to Florida," Hounshell said. "But I don't know 100% if I will be graduating early."
"I have to talk over a lot with my family and I have to think about a lot," Hounshell said.
Hounshell received a phone call Wednesday evening from Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio.
"He knew as much as I did," Hounshell said. "It was a big shock to everyone."
The six-foot-five, 242-pound Hounshell added that he has been in touch with other Gator recruits.
"I talked to five or six of them," he said. "They're all on board and we're trying to stay optimistic about the whole situation. We are still all Gators."
Hounshell, rated a three-star prospect by Rivals, plays on both sides of the ball for his Cleveland-area school. He was recently one of three Defensive Players of the Year on the Associated Press Division II All-Ohio team.
Hounshell is among several recruits who was scheduled to be taking their official visits to Gainesville this weekend. He said that he will know for certain tomorrow, but still expects to make the trip down.
