Watt will join his brother

Once a verbal commit to Northwestern, 2011 prospect Derek Watt will follow his older brother, Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt, to Madison next year.

"Yes, I committed to Wisconsin, but I'm not planning on doing a story right now," Watt communicated to BadgerBlitz.com via text message Monday evening.

It had been speculated that Watt was still interested in UW after he attended games as an unofficial visitor this season. J.J. Watt posted a message on Twitter moments ago that broke the good news to Badger fans.

"Just got some great news, we're going to have another Badger in the family!!! Congrats bro, couldn't be happier for you!"

With 18 known verbal commitments in the current class, Watt will be joining the team as a greyshirt unless a scholarship opens up late in the process.

"Right now it's a greyshirt but we'll see what happens," Watt said in the following text message.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is expected to play linebacker for the Badgers and will join a 2011 in-state class that already has Derek Landisch, Jordan Fredrick and Jake Keefer projected at the mentioned position.

Playing both ways for Pewaukee High School, Watt rushed for over 1,500 yards as a senior and had 25 touchdowns for the 7-3 Pirates.
