Four-star wideout still interested in AU

One of Auburn's top receiver targets for 2011 is Miami (Fla.) Columbus wide receiver Tacoi Sumler.

Sumler is coveted by schools across the country, and is currently on the west coast taking in schools such as Oregon, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, and USC.

A school closer to home still has Sumler's attention though, as he still has interest in the Tigers.

"I'm still talking to them," Sumler said. "I need to get back in touch with all of them. I'm going to definitely try and get up there before the season starts and see the campus and talk to the coaches. I just want to visit, I've never been to Auburn before."

Auburn wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor is helping recruiting Sumler to Auburn, along with tight ends coach Jay Boulware.

"I talk to him a lot," Sumler said about Taylor. "He came down in the spring, he's a really cool guy. The coaches at Auburn are just all cool guys, they seem like they would be cool to play for."

The Columbus High School product was scheduled to attend Big Cat Weekend at the end of May, but ended up not being able to make the trip.

When Sumler gets back in town on July 11th, he plans to heavily evaluate his list of offers and ultimately narrow it down to a top five. Sumler has yet to make the trip to Auburn, and wants to give Auburn a fair shot before making a final cut.

"I want to go see them first," Sumler said. "I want to see what they have to offer, and they could earn their way into that top five."

Sumler does say he has a few things in mind when evaluating a school, and the classroom takes top priority.

"Academics comes first," Sumler said. "I want to go somewhere that has my major in sports management, something in the business program. Then facilities and trying to get on the field are important as well."

The Miami native plans to get back home and narrow his list down to a top five, which will likely determine the five official visits he takes in the fall.

Sumler said he doesn't have a timetable for making a decision, and said he would not have a problem committing to a school if he felt comfortable.

"If I know where I want to go, I won't hesitate to commit," Sumler said. "If not, I'll take it down to the Under Armour game or signing day."

Sumler is a member of Rivals250, and is ranked the number 20 receiver in the nation.
