Interest picking up in Mississippi WR
Cody Prewitt is yet to pick up an offer from Ole Miss, but growing up a fan of the Rebels, he hopes that an offer will soon be forthcoming.Bay Springs (Sylva Bay Academy), Miss. wide receiver
Despite previously being listed as having an offer from Ole Miss and Southern Miss, Prewitt explained his offer situation on Tuesday.
"I picked up an offer from Southern Miss about a week after signing day," he said. "I talked with Ole Miss, Coach (Ron) Dickerson, a couple of weeks ago, and I don't have an offer from them yet. He said they're trying to find a space for me."
Prewitt attended Ole Miss' junior day last month and also has attended Southern Miss' junior day and has plans to attend Mississippi State's event later this month.
While he has only the one offer, Prewitt said interest is picking up from several schools outside the state of Mississippi.
"I'm interested in Florida, but haven't really heard much from them," he said. "But Oregon has been sending a lot of stuff recently and seems really interested and Clemson and Auburn are also showing some interest."
Prewitt, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound wide receiver prospect, said he was recently timed at his high school and ran a 4.42 40-yard dash and is continuing to work on his speed.
"I would like to improve my speed, maybe get to below 4.4," he said. "I think that will help me when it comes to getting offers."
Prewitt plans to continue to look at Ole Miss and hopes he gets an offer.
"I really like Ole Miss," he said. "I kind of grew up a fan of Ole Miss, particularly in the last couple of years and have become a fan of some of their players."
Prewitt will be at Mississippi State's junior day on March 27, the same day Ole Miss holds its third junior day event this year, but he plans to return to visit again in Oxford.
"I'll probably try to get up for a spring practice or the spring game," he said. "If not then, I'll try to get to one of their camps."
Prewitt said he played wide receiver for his team most of his sophomore year, but was used mostly as a running back last year. He said he had about 1,700 all-purpose yards and returned kicks and punts and also played some at both strong safety and free safety. He hopes to return to wide receiver, which he feels is his natural position, this fall.
He has a 3.2 GPA and has already scored a 23 on his ACT.
