Georgia star OL visits Ole Miss

Ole Miss entertained one of the top prospects in Georgia earlier this week and the highly talented offensive lineman came away impressed with his visit.

After attending Georgia's basketball game on Saturday in Athens, Dalton offensive tackle Watts Dantzler headed out on Sunday for a two-day unofficial visit at Ole Miss.

"I went over Sunday and stayed Sunday night with a friend," Dantzler said on Thursday evening. "It was good, I really enjoyed it. The campus was beautiful."

Beginning early Monday, Dantzler spent nearly a full day with various Ole Miss coaches.

"All the coaches were really cool," he said. "I met with Coach (Houston) Nutt for about 45 minutes, but I probably stayed with (offensive line) Coach (Mike) Markuson for four or five hours. I was impressed that Coach Nutt and all the coaches seem like real good Christian guys."

The four or five hours spent with Markuson included tours of the Indoor Practice Facility and the FEDEX Academic Center and also included a tour of the campus.

Dantzler had previously announced a top five that consists of Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Tennessee.

The Rebels had a chance to move into that elite company, but apparently fell just short.

"Ole Miss definitely moved up some," Dantzler said. "My top five might change later on and Ole Miss might be there, but for now, it's still the same. I want to go there on a game day and see what the atmosphere is like first."

In addition to the five schools, all who have offered the 6-foot-7, 315 pound prospect, he has offers from the likes of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Stanford, Miami, and Notre Dame. Overall, he has more than 15 offers.

While many high school students will be making treks to the beaches for spring break in about a month, Dantzler has other plans.

"Over spring break, I plan on going to Clemson, Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State," he said. "I want to spend my time checking out some more schools."

While his schedule is heavily booked, he also may find time to make another trip to Ole Miss before attending a game this fall.

"I'd like to get back over and watch a practice, maybe the spring game," he said.

Dantzler has a 3.7 GPA and has yet to take the ACT.
