Perkins commits, but in unexpected way

In the 2008-2009 school year, La Porte (Tex.) High School's Kendrick Perkins was one of the Houston-area's top dual-sport athletes. He led the Bulldog football team deep into the playoffs with his bruising running style while driving in homeruns for La Porte's baseball team.

The athletic 6-foot-2, 220-pound running back, who was one of the top Class 5A runners in the state as a junior after totaling 1,762 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns, decided to end his recruitment with a recent commitment. However, it was not a decision anyone expected and will also have ramifications on his senior year.

This season, defensive coordinators will not have to game plan for the big back, seeing that he is hanging up his football cleats to be a full-time baseball player.
