Waisome plans to attend FNL

Nick Waisome was one of the top cornerbacks at Florida's camp last month and the 2011 standout from Groveland South Lake plans to return to Gainesville for Friday Night Lights, where he'll go up against some of the nation's best receivers.

Waisome to sign with the Gators down the road.

"The offer (from Florida) could come (after Friday Night Lights) but when I met with coach (Urban Meyer) he said he wanted to meet my parents," Waisome said. "I don't know if he wants to meet them, I guess he wants to see some background.

"I like Florida, it's close to home and stuff, but they haven't offered me yet. I like it though. I like Florida. Coach Bedford is real cool. He taught me a lot about stance and some good techniques I use now."

He might have used some of those pointers at Florida State's camp this week where he was reportedly one of the better cornerbacks in attendance. He ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash in Tallahassee and then shut everybody down in one-on-ones.

"It's a good school," Waisome said of Florida State. "I like it up there. I met some of the coaches today. Coach (Dexter) Carter is really cool and I got to meet coach (Bobby) Bowden so that was a great experience. He's a good coach. He's been coaching for a long time. I guess that means something."

Miami is also under serious consideration because it was the first school to offer Waisome, one of the standouts at the Miami Nike Camp this spring.

"That was my first offer so that was a big offer," he said. "The coaches down there are really cool and down to earth. It's not like they're always talking about football. They're real chill."

No new schools have offered but Waisome said South Carolina has shown a lot more interest. According to Waisome, the Gamecocks thought they had already offered but he had not received any verbal assurances an official offer would come Sept. 1. Still, South Carolina must be considered a team to watch.

Groveland South Lake has been a gold mine for Florida in recent years and it could continue that way in 2011 if Waisome gets an offer and follows the path of his former teammates. Running back Jeffrey Demps and offensive lineman Jonotthan Harrison committed to the Gators in the last two recruiting cycles.

"Coming in as a 2011 player, I was doing really good sticking with the big boys and they thought I had good footwork," Waisome said after Florida's camp last month.

"Hopefully they'll offer. It's not that much of a big deal. I like Florida and everything, it's a good school and it would be a great opportunity to have them going into my senior year."
