Recruiting timeline: Kraig Appleton

Kraig Appleton's recruiting saga has been interesting to say the least, filled with far more rumors and speculation than actual concrete answers.

One thing, however, is certain. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver from East St. Louis, Ill., is one of the most talented prospects in the entire country and his recruitment is now believed to be between two schools: Wisconsin and Illinois.

The following is a timeline of the four-star's recruitment over the last four months. This report will begin with Appleton being listed a verbal commit to Illinois.

After speaking with one of Appleton's high school coaches at East St. Louis, BadgerBlitz.com learns Appleton has three schools he is currently interested in.

"Right now it's Illinois, Wisconsin and Texas Tech I can say for sure," said Curtis Graham, an assistant at Appleton's high school.

"I know that he's just getting back from Wisconsin today (Sunday) and that he'll probably be at Illinois next week, he's just starting to take his visits. As far as I know, it's (his decision) still up in the air and he's not leaning any direction yet. He's basically just trying to find a system that best fits his game."

At this point, it has also been confirmed that defensive coordinator Dave Doeren has taken over as the primary recruiting coach for Appleton.

"Yeah, I talk to him (Doeren) quite a bit and we have a good relationship and I know Kraig enjoys talking to him, too," Graham said. "But Kraig's the type of kid that has a great relationship with his mom and I think she'll have a lot to say about his decision. She's a very important person in his life. He says he likes the coaches from Texas Tech and he has a good relationship with and he mentions that coaches from Wisconsin from time to time, as well."

"I recently spoke to the head coach (Darren Sunkett); we both have no idea where Kraig will end up committing. It's down to Wisconsin and Illinois. It's all up in the air."
