Grandy, Allen have Pine Bluff reunion on visit
Pine Bluff (Dollarway), Ark., athlete Jesse Grandy had heard plenty about Ole Miss from one of his former high school teammates. Still, the versatile standout needed to see Oxford and Ole Miss for himself before he could determine if he would be a Rebel as well.
"It went good," Grandy said. "I had a good time. I liked the atmosphere."
Grandy was hosted by Ole Miss tight end Ferbia Allen, a former Pine Bluff standout who redshirted this season but positioned himself for playing time in the fall.
"We talked about recruiting and we hung out," Grandy said. "He said it's the place to be. He said it's a real good place."
On Sunday, Grandy met with Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt. Ole Miss, Grandy said, plans to use him as a jack of all trades, playing some wide receiver, running the "Wild Rebel" formation in the Ole Miss offense and possibly playing some defense as a cornerback. Grandy said he was pleased with the explanation of the role Ole Miss has envisioned for him.
"(Nutt) told me not to be pressured and that when I make a pressure, make sure I'm happy with the decision," said Grandy, who's also considering Arkansas and Louisiana Tech.
Grandy, a 5-foot-11, 155-pounder with sub-4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, will travel to Ruston, La., to visit the Bulldogs next weekend. He'll announce a decision, he said, on National Signing Day Feb. 4.
"They're about the same," Grandy said. "Everything's about equal at the moment."
