Could childhood pals make December visit?

Ole Miss has finally set up a visit date with Korvic Neat, but it won't be this weekend.

Instead, Neat's official visit to Ole Miss will be on Dec. 5. The question is even if Neat checks out Oxford, Miss., everything else that Ole Miss has to offer, can anything sway him away from Florida International?

The shifty wide receiver from Hallandale (Hallandale Beach), Fla., committed to Florida International on Oct. 13. Since then, his stock has skyrocketed. Troy and North Carolina have offered. Ole Miss appears extremely close and has been trying to get Neat to take an official visit to Oxford.

"I still have to go over it with my mom and see if I'm going to go or not," Neat said early Sunday evening, when there were still tentative plans to come up for this weekend's non-conference game between Ole Miss (5-4) and Louisiana-Monroe (3-7). "I'm looking forward to it. I'm very interested in that school. I like the atmosphere with that school."

Ole Miss coaches, taking advantage of the open date between the Rebels' 17-7 win over Auburn on Nov. 1 and Saturday's home date with Louisiana-Monroe, spent several days in the Miami area late last week checking out several Sunshine State prospects, including Neat. The attention is flattering, said Nutt, who said he's not going to rush into any decisions.

"I'm sort of taking my time," Neat said. "My mom and I talk about this every day. I think she is (anxious to look at options), but she likes FIU."

The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder said Sunday that even if he checks out Ole Miss, North Carolina and/or Troy, it's going to be difficult to pry him away from the Miami area and Florida International.

"It'll be hard, because FIU shows a lot of love to me," Neat said. "I just don't know what I'm going to do. I'm still sold on FIU. I still attended their camp and I like their campus. I feel more at home."

If Neat does make the trip to Ole Miss eventually, however, he'll do so with an open mind.

"I'm going to be looking to see if the area is boring," said Neat, who is leaning toward pursuing a degree in business administration. "I'll be looking to see how the coaches and players interact, and I want to find out about their academics."

Ole Miss does offer one more potential benefit for Neat. It's a long shot, granted, but the Rebels are working to get Neat's childhood friend, Miami (Palmetto), Fla., four-star running back Jaamal Berry to Oxford at some point as well. The two prospects mothers are friends.

"Jaamal and I are real close," Neat said. "We grew up right down the street from each other. We went to the same elementary school."

Neat said he and Berry, an Ohio State commitment, haven't really had any serious discussions about breaking away from their current pledges and matriculating to Ole Miss together. That could change, however, if both players make it to north Mississippi for an official visit weekend and like what they see.

"It would come up," Neat said. "It would be cool because we grew up together. We'd have somebody to be around, so we wouldn't feel too lonely."

Attempts to reach Berry, who was originally scheduled to visit for the Auburn game, were unsuccessful Sunday. However, Berry's mother said Sunday evening that plans to travel to Ole Miss this weekend had not yet been finalized. has since learned that Berry's visit will likely occur on Dec. 5 as well.
