Miami safety talks about Ole Miss win

Miami (Gulliver Prep) safety Artice Kellam returned about a week ago from an official visit to Minnesota, but on Monday after Ole Miss upset Florida in the Swamp on Saturday, he was ready to talk about Ole Miss.

"Ole Miss has been my favorite since the day they offered," Kellam said on Monday evening. "That hasn't changed."

Kellam wasn't able to see the contest in Gainesville, but he saw the highlights several times.

"That's the biggest shock in the world," Kellam said of Ole Miss' win. "It was on everybody's mind at school on Monday. A lot of my teachers and classmates are Florida fans and I've been riding them hard all day about the loss - real hard."

While Kellam has offers from Minnesota, South Carolina, and Connecticut, he's never made it a secret about how much he likes Ole Miss.

"That win has me real close to committing," he said. "Real close. I liked everything I saw about the team and I kind of had a feeling it was coming and I knew it was going to be a shock. One of the Ole Miss coaches told me they were going to shock Florida, and they did."

Kellam normally surrounds himself at school with fellow Gulliver Prep teammates Darian Mallory, Frank Crawford, and Conner Vernon. Crawford is a top target for Ole Miss and has made his top five, while Mallory is yet to receive an offer. Vernon is committed to Duke. All four may visit for the Auburn game on Nov. 1.

"I really haven't talked to them about how the win affects them with recruiting," Kellam said. "We just spent a lot of time talking about the game and how Ole Miss pulled off the upset."

Kellam said he planned to talk to Ole Miss coaches on Monday evening to congratulate them.

Kellam, a 5-foot-11, 178 pound safety with 4.5 speed finished last season with over 70 tackles, four forced fumbles and one interception.

He plans on taking the SAT for the first time on Saturday.
