Vols Snag Second Linebacker Of The Day

With an obvious need for linebackers in the class of 2009, Tennessee made strides to fill that need by landing Stone Mountain, Georgia's Nigel Mitchell-Thornton. Mitchell-Thornton verbally committed to the Vols on Friday afternoon as Tennessee continues to try and put its stamp on the fertile recruiting area in and around Atlanta.

"Tennessee has always been at the top," Mitchell-Thornton said. "A couple of weeks ago, I sat down with my high school coach and he agreed that Tennessee is the best place for me. It's a great location with a great history and they have good academics.

Mitchell-Thornton is on track to graduate from high school in December and plans on being a mid-term enrollee in January.

Mitchell-Thornton joins Vol commit Tony Williams as another Atlanta area commitment in the 2009 class as Tennessee makes strides to make ties with future Atlanta area prospects.

Rivals.com rates Mitchell-Thornton as a 3-star linebacker in the class of 2009.
