Hamilton takes in TCU camp
Texarkana(TX)Texas High receiver Cobi Hamilton simply put is a hot commodity these days. Several schools are showing the east Texas standout attention and he added six offers to the table after the spring evaluation period.
Hamilton hauled in 29 receptions for 726 yards and 7 scores in '07 and combine that with his 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame and blistering speed it's easy to see why he's gathering such attention.
"I've got six or seven offers," he said. "Baylor, Houston, Southern Miss, Kansas State, Tulsa, and Louisiana Tech are the one's that have offered. I'm also hearing from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, TCU, and Texas A&M."
Hamilton, who has run a 21.4 in the 200m in track says he would like the opportunity to do both sports at the next level which is why a few teams stick out early on.
"I like OU, Missouri, and Arkansas," he said of his favorites. "I like the track programs and I want to run track in college. Depth charts and academics are what I'm looking at for each school."
Hamilton, rated as the 61st ranked receiver in the country in the latest Rivals.com rankings, landed on the Frogs radar recently and made his way to a satellite camp in Maud on Wednesday.
"They came to my school a while back and asked me to come to the camp," he said. "They wanted to make sure I would go so they called my coach. I made it out there, there wasn't a whole bunch of players there so I got a lot of reps. There was probably about 60 players there, a lot of them were from smaller 2A or 3A schools."
So did Hamilton leave with an offer?
"Their coach left so I didn't find out," he said. "They told my coach they would probably call him tomorrow and let him know if they were going to offer so I'm waiting to hear from Coach Thornton."
Hamilton has other camps slated for Arkansas, LSU in late July and possibly Texas A&M. The speedster was hoping to make a decision prior to the football season but now he's unsure on when he'll make a decision on his destination.
"Well, I planned on making a decision before football season but now I'm not sure when I'll decide."
Hamilton was named first-team all district in 2007.
