Cotton and Davis win state track titles

Many of Iowa's top high school athletes were in Des Moines this past weekend for the state track meet, including two of the best football players in the Class of 2009, Jordan Cotton and Keenan Davis. By the end of the weekend, both prospects, who hold multiple college offers, were headed home with some hardware.

For the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Cotton, it was a victory in the 400-meter hurdles in Class 3A to go along with a second place finish in the 4x100 relay and third place in both the 400 and 100-meter dash.

Cotton's performance helped Mount Pleasant to a third place finish in the Class 3A team standings. With titles in two events now under his belt, next year the junior is taking aim at another former state champion, his father Marshall, who has three state championships.

While Cotton had experienced success before at the state track meet, this was the first appearance for Cedar Rapids Washington's Keenan Davis. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Davis made it count with a victory in the 4x200 relay in Class 4A to go along with a third place finish in the 4x100 and eighth place in the high jump.

In the high jump, Davis says his form is still a work in progress, but he showed improvement throughout the year with a best of 6-foot-4. On the track, the four-star prospect has worked on his speed all spring and it is beginning to show on the stopwatch with his forty time now down to 4.47.
