Speedy California WR has Army offer

One position that Army is looking to upgrade when it comes to recruiting is wide receiver, and one such talent that is on the Black Knights radar is Ricky Marvray. The speedy wideout just measured in at 5-foot-11 and 185-pounds, and had a solid season at receiver with 33 receptions for 753 yards and scored nine touchdowns. had a chance to speak to the versatile junior out of Corona (CA) Centennial High School about the 2007 season, the upcoming season, and his recruitment.

How is your recruiting coming along? "I have two offers (Army & Air Force)," declares Marvray. "I received my offer from Army two weeks ago and just got an offer from Air Force."

The swift wide receiver is being recruited by Army's offensive line coach, Saga Tuitele. "Recruiting with Army is going very well … they like the way I play football, felt that I was a leader, they liked my grades and so they offered me,:" shares Marvray. "It was my first offer and I was surprised and didn't know what to say.

Other schools are beginning to take notice and there should competition for his talents through the summer and football season. "I just got off the phone with UCLA, Stanford is recruiting me really hard, I would say New Mexico State, Arizona and ASU, Oregon and ND are also showing interest as well," says Marvray.

Marvray who maintains a 3.8 GPA is looking forward to the upcoming season, with the hope that his Centennial team (13-2) can redeem themselves from lost in the state championship. "Last year we won the CIF (Division I) and went to the Division I state championship game, but lost to De La Salle 37-31," shares Marvray who made 2nd Team All-League and All Riverside County Honorable Mention.

Centennial should be solid once again, with has a firm core of upperclassmen and Division I prospects returning this season. They are lead by 5 star linebacker Vontaze Burfict who is a USC commit, defensive tackle Willie Sutton, wide receiver G'Shaun Harris, offensive tackle Gavin Pascarella, who also holds an offer from the Black Knights and of course Marvray.

In addition to football, Marvray who has been clocked at 4.42 (forty) runs track for Centennial and competes in 100M, 200M and 4x100 relay (split of 10.9), but only qualified for the latter event for CIF championships that are being held today.

Who are you top school right now? "I would say Stanford first and spoken to their coaches on several occasions, plus I'm going to their camp as well - hopefully an offer will come," shares Marvray. "Then UCLA is next, Notre Dame, New Mexico and Army, but they just popped up, because I hadn't been receiving any mail from them and then the offer came, but they are also on my top interest list."
