Texas OT piles up offers

Despite only a year of varsity experience, Brownwood, Texas offensive tackle Stavion Lowe has been a hot prospect in recruiting circles, already notching an impressive ten offers.

One of those offers came from Ole Miss last week.

"I definitely have an interest in Ole Miss," Lowe said Monday evening. "I've heard it's a great school and know all about the Mannings. They are a good contender in the SEC almost every year."

One area that Ole Miss staff will have to overcome with Lowe, contrary to the situation with most prospects, is that Lowe is not familiar with Houston Nutt and his staff's accomp

The 6-foot-6, 294 pound Lowe projects as a pro-type bookend tackle and already is being recruiting heavily by the SEC as well as by the Big 12.

Lowe claims offers from Ole Miss, Auburn, Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston, Arizona, and Kansas.

He is also getting interesting and showing interest in Oklahoma, but the Sooners have yet to offer.

"I don't really have any favorites at this time," Lowe said. "All are good schools and to be honest, I just don't have a specific order. I'll have a chance this summer to narrow down the list."

Ole Miss is one school among the nine that Lowe wants to learn more about.

"That's what I got to find out," Lowe said about the Rebels. "I know they are in the SEC and that's about it."

Not only is Lowe still researching schools, he's undecided about which conference he favors.

"The SEC is the toughest conference in the country," he said. "But the Big 12 has a lot of great schools and they are just about the same caliber."

Lowe said he was playing on the junior varsity during his sophomore year on a senior-laden Brownwood High School team and was called up around the seventh game of the season to prepare him for his junior season on the varsity squad.

"I've always had the game," he said. "When I got the chance, I made the most of it."

Lowe has attended only one junior day, that at Texas A&M, but has made several unofficial visits including trips to Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

He plans to be at Auburn next weekend for an unofficial visit.

He's not sure about attending Ole Miss' junior day, which will be conducted over the coming Saturdays all the way through the Grove Bowl on Apr. 12. He did rule out a trip on Apr. 12 due to having already made plans on that date.

Lowe couldn't put a timeline on his commitment plans, but said if he doesn't decide to commit by this fall, he'll take some official visits to help him decide.
