Offers are exploding for one of the top linebackers in the Southeast. The 6-foot-0, 230-pounder holds scholarships from most of the elite college programs across the country. Does he have any favorites?
"I probably have around 40 or 50 offers," he said. "The local paper said today that I got offered by Southern Cal. I called their recruiting coach not too long ago and know they were pretty close to offering me.
"I also have offers from LSU, Auburn, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, Miami, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina and more."
What does Smith think of all the offers?
"I'm just keeping it all open," he said. "In fact, I'm playing baseball right now and not thinking about football. I'll think more about it after the baseball season when spring comes. That is when I'll look at the schools start to narrow it down to five to seven."
Is Smith impressed with any of the scholarships in particular?
"The Southern California one is a big compliment. California football is real big," he said. "To me, I think the Ohio State one was impressive. Coach Tressel came down and offered me in person. I thought that was big since a majority of my other offers I got in the mail. Plus, they are known for producing good linebackers."
The Seffner (Fla.) Armwood prospect wrapped up by discussing what he wants in a school.
"Location is a big thing. I'd like somewhere more in the southern region," he said. "I also want a good football atmosphere in the town the school is in. I want somewhere where everyone loves the school.
"Academics of course are big, I think I want to go into forensics. Then, I just have to like the school and the people there. I also will check out the depth chart, I want to play really early."
The Sunshine State prospect posted 80 tackles and three sacks as a junior.
