Mettenberger gets big in-state offer
One of the most talked about quarterbacks coming out of the Army All-American combine was Watkinsville (Ga.) - Oconee gun slinger Zach Mettenberger. He displayed a major league arm, great size and solid fundamentals there and he picked up a huge offer over the weekend from an in-state school.
"I actually called Coach [Mike] Bobo (Georgia QB coach and Offensive Coordinator) Friday night to see what was up and we talked about other things for a few minutes and then he jumped right in and said Georgia has decided to offer me," said Mettenberger.
"He said they had a coaches meeting on Friday and talked about 2009 prospects and he said all the coaches agreed that they wanted to offer me now."
The Georgia offer did not shock the 6-foot-5 quarterback, but it did surprise him a little.
"I thought they would offer me, but not this soon," he said. "It kind of caught me off guard when they offered me on Friday night. I am happy about it and a little surprised at the same time."
The offers started last summer when he impressed the Seminole coaches at an FSU camp. After Florida State offered, a couple others jumped on him quickly, but that fourth offer took a while to arrive.
"It feels good to get an offer again. It has been a long time. FSU, Boston College and then Ole Miss offered last year over the summer or early in the season, so it has been a while since I received an offer."
