Vols give 2009 CB his first offer

It's still early for 2009 prospect Eric Gordon but it's not too early for his in-state program to kick off his recruitment. The Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro cornerback recently received some good news from Tennessee following a visit to Knoxville for a big win over Georgia.

"I got an offer in the mail Tuesday or Wednesday of last week," Gordon said. "I think it's real great. I like UT. Now I'm just waiting on everyone else to start up."

The offer came just a few days after Gordon took an unofficial visit to the Vols with teammate Jacquese Seward and Brentwood Academy standout 2009 prospect Thad McHaney.

"It was a good trip," Gordon said. "I met Fulmer and all the rest of the coaches. I also got to talk to a lot of the players I know on the team up there, and I love that stadium."

Gordon is getting letters from schools all over the map but the Tennessee offer was the first he has received. Despite the excitement from his first offer, he seems to be settled in for the process.

"I'm really just starting to get the feel for things," he said. "I'm getting letters from Indiana, Alabama, I'm getting a lot of mail from Alabama, Michigan State, Duke, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, and Auburn."

On the field, Gordon is making an impact in all three phases of the game. Gordon lines up at safety on defense and wide receiver and running back on offense. He is also a dangerous return man for the Burros.

"Last week I ran a punt back for a touchdown," he said. "I also had three catches for about 79 yards. We've only lost once so far this season."

Gordon is a big hitter on defense and a quick hitter on offense but his position at the next level will likely be at cornerback.
