Holmes, C-A make statement

One of the marquee match-up this first weekend was Flint Carman-Ainsworth vs. Grand Blanc High School. Grand Blanc has multiple BCS level prospects and is looking to improve on a deep playoff run last year. C-A features Michigan State running back commitment Gerald Holmes. has that and more.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Holmes missed much of last season with a leg injury and was anxious to prove that he is one of the top running back prospects in the Midwest. Grand Blanc features multiples BCS prospects including Pittsburgh commitment Luke MacLean and Daniel Davis on defense. In the end, the rushing attack of Carman-Ainsworth was too much for Grand Blanc as the Cavaliers rolled to a 27-12 victory.

Holmes piled up 162-yards rushing on only 14 carries (11.6 ypc) and scored 2 touchdowns. He had a 78-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter which all but sealed the victory.

Carman-Ainsworth will look to continue its winning ways next weekend when they host Saginaw Heritage. Grand Blanc will look to bounce back when the travel to play Livonia Churchill.

  • St Xavier defeated Middletown 42-39

    In one of the biggest match-up in Ohio St. X topped Middletown. Future Spartan wide receiver Trey Kilgore did not play as he is out 4-6 weeks after breaking a bone in his foot in a scrimmage last week.

  • Solon defeated Shaker Heights 24-21

    Future Spartan defensive back Darin Hicks caught 2 touchdowns passes, including a 46-yarder with 19-seconds left, to lead Solon to the victory. Hicks had 6 catches for 120-yards on the night. Shaker Heights features BCS prospect Donovan Munger.

  • Kingsley defeated TC St. Francis 18-0

    Spartan class of 2014 commitment Byron Bullough had 8.5 tackles for the Gladiators.

  • Grand Rapids Christian defeated South Christian 38-28

    Spartan 2014 wide receiver commitment Drake Harris caught a 39-yards touchdowns pass in the win.

  • Austintown Fitch defeated Warren Harding 24-10

    Spartan safety prospect Jalyn Powell's team dropped their season opener.

  • Brother Rice vs. Cass Tech

    This game features a bevy of D1 prospects including future Spartan Jon Reschke, Spartan targets Dennis Finley, Deon Drake and Damon Webb. It also has Michigan commitments Jourdan Lewis and David Dawson.


  • Gillman vs. Archbishop Moeller

    A marquee match-up that will be on ESPNU. This game features Spartan linebacker commitment Shane Jones as well as Michigan defensive tackle commitment Henry Poggi.
