Changes for Olaseni and Katenda
Basketball recruiting in the spring always seems to have a few twist and turns. That appears to be the case for the Sunrise Christian Academy duo of Eric Katenda and Gabe Olaseni, according to their coach, Kyle Linsted.
"It's sort of a last minute thing, but Eric is going to be making his official visit to Iowa this weekend," he said. "He was always planning on visiting Iowa and then next weekend he will visit Notre Dame."
After potentially considering an unknown fourth school, Coach Linsted says that after these visits are complete, the 6-foot-9 forward will decide between Iowa, Wake Forest (where he visited last weekend), and Notre Dame.
"He had a good visit to Wake Forest last weekend. They are probably his leader, but that's simply because it's the first school he has visited. I would say all three are equal right now."
Olaseni, a 6-foot-10 forward originally from England, made his official visit to Iowa last weekend and said he had a good time while he was on campus. At the time he said he planned to make an official visit to Mississippi, but those plans have now been scrapped.
"He won't be making that trip now," Coach Linsted said of the trip to Ole Miss. "Things sort of changed with their situation and he has no other official visits planned at this time, but he will take more visits at some point."
Coach Linsted indicated that Olaseni is hearing from Nebraska, Memphis, and that he is waiting for Oklahoma to hire a new coach. He will consider visits to those schools in the future before signing.
"It's probably unlikely that he will make any visits before the start of the signing period, so I don't anticipate him making a decision at the start of the period," Linsted said Thursday afternoon.
