Big Ten suits tough Ramondo just fine

Las Cruces (NM) Mayfield is one of the most storied football programs in New Mexico with eight 4A football titles and 15 appearances in the state championship game since the school opened in 1965.

But the Trojans have never had a two-way lineman as talented and coachable as Michigan State commitment Matt Ramondo, a 6-foot-5, 300-pounder ranked the No. 2 player in the Rocky Mountain States and No. 46 in the class of 2011 by Rivals.com.

"We usually have those 5-foot-11, 200-pound or 240-pound guys playing that position," explained Mayfield coach Michael Bradley, "We were extremely grateful to have a player like Matt on our football team at a time when the talent level is as good in New Mexico as it has been in probably 10 or 15 years. He went up against very good competition this year and he did extremely well. I think he is ready to go on to Michigan State and I think he is going to do well up there with the proper training and the instruction that he is going to get from Ted Gill."
