Countess torn between two
Olney (Md.) Good Counsel cornerback Blake Countess has been committed to Michigan since December. However, the 5-foot-10, 171-pounder has since taken an official visit to Penn State since the coaching change in Ann Arbor and is now trying to decide between the two schools.
"Right now Blake is torn between the two schools, it is about 50/50," said Countess' father, Wendell Countess, on Tuesday. "It's really a hard decision. Blake has been committed to Michigan since December but since the coaching change and since Penn State offered and started to recruit him hard, it has been difficult. He took his visit to State College and really liked it there, so that has made it even tougher. It's a no-lose situation but it is also a hard choice to make."
Countess is visiting with new Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison formerly of the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday and then will meet with Penn State assistant coach Larry Johnson and many other Nittany Lion assistants on Thursday. After that, it will be family discussion time.
"We'll have to sit down and figure things out," said Wendell. "It's going to come down to which school and program will continue to further the values we as parents have instilled in Blake. We want to make sure that when he goes off to college, we feel confident that he will be in a place that is the best fit for how we raised him.
"It's hard because we had a longer relationship with the previous Michigan staff and felt comfortable with them and now we are getting to know the new staff at the same time we are getting to know the Penn State staff because they just offered and started recruiting Blake recently. It's like starting over again," Blake's father said. "We want to get this done by around Friday if we can. Blake isn't the kind of kid who wants to pick a hat off a table or anything like that, he just wants to make the right decision and do it as quietly as he can. So I'm hoping we'll all know by then."
