Grant preps for Tech visit

Mesquite (Texas) Horn wide receiver Jakeem Grant will be in Lubbock this weekend on an official visit to Texas Tech. The former Tulsa commit is looking for a new home, and the Red Raiders appear to be a viable candidate.

"Yeah I've been with Tulsa and wasn't going to go back on my commitment, but then they had their coaching change and it made things a little different," Grant said. "Texas Tech has been on me for a little while now and I'm pretty familiar with them, so I thought now would be a good time to get up there for an official and see if it would be a good fit for me."

Grant has developed a pretty close relationship with the staff in West Texas, most notably assistant coach Tommy Mainord.

"Me and Coach Mainord are real cool. He's easy to talk to, and we don't just talk about football. He's always open to whatever is going on," he said. "I've talked some with Coach Sonny Cumbie too, but of most of the time has been spent with Coach Mainord."

Grant indicated that he may take a visit to Pitt next week, where Tulsa's former head coach Todd Graham now resides, but he left the door open for a commitment to Texas Tech following his visit.

"I may take another visit, or I may not. Coach Graham and Pitt have been talking to me since he went there, but I'm not sure what I'll do yet," Grant said. "I'll need to see if Tech is the best fit for me. If I get to Texas Tech and like what I see this weekend, I can see myself going with them."

Aside from Tech, Grant holds offers from Colorado State, Iowa State, Louisana Tech, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest among others.
