Sanchez ready for upcoming visit to Army
At 6-foot-3 1/2, 212 pounds, linebacker - defensive end Derek Sanchez has the type of frame that by his sophomore year in college, could easily see him in the 225, even 230 range.
Should he end up committing to the Black Knights, he could play several positions defensively.
"They are looking at me at defensive end or linebacker, which is where I play in high school," shared Sanchez, who indicated that he spoke to Army's co-defensive coordinator Payam Saadat two evenings ago.
"I love defensive end
I played with hand in the ground and two point stance."
Presently, Sanchez's only offer right now is from the Black Knights of Army, which he received December 9th. He will be visiting the weekend of January 21st with hopes of putting a mental picture with the reality of West Point and the Army football program.
"My interest in Army is pretty high and I'm looking forward to visiting to see what it's like there," he said yesterday.
The prospect from Reno (Nev.) Bishop Manogue High School is still hearing from Stanford, Utah and Nevada.
"I got an email two days ago from Stanford, who is recruiting me as a long snapper, Utah as a defensive end and Nevada is looking at me as a linebacker."
This past season saw Sanchez register 138 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 4 sacks, along with 2 pass breakups.
When asked what he is looking for in a school, he talked about the importance of a great education, first and foremost. But also indicated that he is hoping to find a place where he will playing in 1-2 years.
GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Sanchez's recruiting all the way to the all important National Signing Day.
