RB is one step closer to becoming a Black Knight

Very often when prospects take their official visits, along with coming away more informed about the school they have visited, the development of new friendships manifest themselves.

In the case of running back Tony Giovannelli and quarterback AJ Schurr, they fall into that category as their paths cross this weekend during their official visit to Army.

Both players were hosted by Black Knights' fullback Jared Hassin and it appears that each player came away from their visit closer to becoming Black Knights.

"I spoke to Tony and we became pretty close," Schurr said yesterday. "He actually played against my cousin in the state championship and I also spoke to Justin Newman and Matt Hugenberg. I know Tony said he is going to commitment once the coaches call him on Monday or Tuesday."

When GBK caught up with Giovannelli yesterday, he confirmed not that he is ready to give his pledge to the Army coaching staff.

"I'm going to commit when they call me in the 48 hour window they gave us," said the 6-foot-0, 180 pound speed back, who stated that he will coming to Army as a direct admit.

So what was it that impressed the back out of Chatham (IL) Glenwood High School? "I like the running style of offense - I like the speed of the offense that compliments my style of play," he shared.

"I also enjoyed my time up there with my host, Jared Hassin - it was cool … he's a cool guy. It was me Jared and Dan McGue who is a friend of Jared and we just hung out all weekend."

Giovannelli also had a chance to spend with Coach Joe Ross who has handled the speedy back's recruiting, along with Head Coach Rich Ellerson. "Coach Ellerson is a really nice guy and I enjoyed my time with him."

Giovannelli has run a 4.55 at the National Underclassmen Combine in St. Louis and for the Glenwood High School track team; he runs the 100M, 200M and 400M, with a personal best 10.9 in the 100M.
