Smiley looking at SU

Syracuse has done a solid job making a name for their team in the south over the past couple of seasons. In the next couple of weeks many of the Florida products the Orange are going after will be taking official visits. One of those prospects making a trip soon is Samuel Smiley.

Smiley, 6-foot-0, 170 pounds did not start receiving offers until the late stages of summer and his first was from the Orange.

"Syracuse offered me in the late summer," Smiley stated. "It was my first college offer and I was happy about that. It means a lot to me and it means that I accomplished a lot and I am doing well."

Growing up down south Smiley did not know much about the Orange, but one of his coaches quickly took care of that.

"I did not know much about them. My coach talked to there coach and that is when I heard about Syracuse. One of my coaches, Malcolm Thomas and he was telling me about it."

Despite not knowing much about the program there were a couple items he was aware of.

"They play in the Dome, so I won't be cold when I play. The football team up there is also doing well right now."

A visit for Smiley has not been set yet, but it should happen in the near future.

"We are going to talk about a visit once the season was over."

Even though he does not have his visit set at this time he knows what he will be looking for when he heads up north.

"I am going to look at how the campus is set up, how the team works in their daily activities."
On Rivals.com Smiley is listed as an athlete and at Syracuse they are viewing him the same way right now.

"Syracuse still has talked about defense or maybe on the offensive side of the ball."

Besides Syracuse there other programs are looking to add Smiley.

"Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Middle Tennessee have also offered me."

With four offers in hand the Sunshine State product is in no hurry to make a commitment.

"I am just waiting it out I have not set a time yet."
