Latu looking forward to Oregon visit
One of Oregon's biggest needs is at the spot that has to be filled by some of the biggest players, defensive tackle. And few in the nation would be a better fit than Gilbert, Arizona's Mo Latu. At 6-foot-2, 315lbs. Latu is a force inside on both sides of the ball for Perry High. But the Ducks want to line him up at defensive tackle in their defense someday and turn him loose. Latu says that's something that he's interested in as well.
"I'll play wherever they want me to," said Latu. "Some teams want me on offense, others want me on defense. I'll play wherever they think I can help the team the most but the Oregon staff said they want me to play defense."
Latu's offer list is just short of a dozen with Missouri, Oregon, Arizona State and Hawaii among them, and USC talking about possibly offering as well. "I visited Arizona State already and I'm planning trips to Missouri and Oregon before the end of the season. With Missouri, they came on at the beginning of the season. And I liked the school, and the coaches. It's been awhile since they recruited anyone in Arizona so I felt honored that they'd reach out to me."
But Latu is also clearly excited about the chance to visit the Oregon program and see what everyone's been talking about.
"I've just heard a lot of great things about the program. I talk to Coach Azzinaro all the time and he's a great guy. I love talking to that guy. He's got a lot of joy and you can hear it when you talk to him. I've heard the facilities are the best and a couple guys that played at Oregon I know really enjoyed being on the field in Eugene because the atmosphere is really different there than other places. Just being able to experience that same kind of feeling would be great. The other thing is that their offense is a hurry-up. Once the ball is down they get right back up there. And defensively they're flying around on there.. They play with intensity and I'd just love to be part of something like that. We're working to schedule my visit to Oregon for a game day. I want to experience that."
