Is BC on top for Duggan?

Back in early September, three-star linebacker Sean Duggan of Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier trimmed his list to five schools, which included the Eagles. Last night EagleAction.com had a chance to check in with Duggan and found out that his list is now down to four schools, so find out who is no longer in the running, and where the Eagles currently stand.

Early in September, Duggan trimmed his list of schools down to Boston College, Duke, Michigan, Virginia, and Wisconsin. So has he trimmed this list any further, and is one school standing out above the rest?

"Well I'm actually down to four schools," said Duggan. "Wisconsin doesn't have the room to take another linebacker right now. And I'd say that BC is a little ahead of everyone else right now."

So what has put BC in front at this stage of the game?

"I'm the most familiar with it probably," said Duggan. "I know Luke [Kuechly] and Alex [Albright] from St. X, so I talk to them sometimes. And BC was just a school that I kind of grew up watching."

Duggan will have a chance to take a closer look at BC later this month during his official visit.

"I'm going up for the Clemson game," said Duggan. "I'm really excited to take my visit. I just hope to get a better feel for the school, players and coaches."

The coaches at BC are another aspect of the program that has impressed Duggan.

"I love them," said Duggan, who mentioned that he mainly stays in touch with Coach Sirmans and Coach McGovern. "They are great guys who are very good coaches and will push you and make you better."

Finally, Duggan was asked if he has a timetable to make his final decision.

"I'm thinking probably some time in January, but I'm not 100-percent sure," said Duggan.

Duggan, 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, may see some additional duties on the field for the remainder of the season at St. Xavier.

"I'm playing middle linebacker, but our starting tight end just tore his ACL so I'm starting to learn a couple of plays on offense starting today," said Duggan, who seems ready for the new responsibility. "I do whatever I can to help out my team and help us get better. If Coach Specht asks me to play some tight end, I get excited and want to do it to the best of my ability."

With his senior season already into October, Duggan was asked about how everything has been progressing for both him and St. Xavier.

"We are getting better each week and growing more as a team," said Duggan. "I can't wait for the next game to show how much we've improved. Personally, I think I've had a pretty good start to the season, but there is always room to improve."

The stretch run this season will bring a number of additional challenges to Duggan and his teammates. He discussed some of his remaining goals.

"For the team, I want to win the next game," said Duggan. "We play LaSalle for the King of the Road trophy, so I want to focus on that game. Looking ahead, the ultimate goal is to always win a state title, but we know we have to take care of business this week. Personally, I want to continue to get better at linebacker and be a better leader on the field."
