Porter takes in La Tech

Tyler Porter is a talented defensive tackle from Lafayette, La's Northside High School and wreaked havoc on current Louisiana Tech Quarterback Taylor Burch's Neville Tigers last season in the playoffs.

Porter came to Tech for camp this summer, but his parents did not come with him. This time they did. How did the parents enjoy it? "My dad said he was ready to commit he liked it so much," said Porter. During the recruiting process it is important for a player to feel at home on his visit and Porter did just that. "My mom said she could really see it [Tech] could be a home away from home for me," added Porter.

Porter has a cousin who plays for Grambling State University which is just down the road from Tech. While in the area, Porter took in Grambling's campus and met with their coaches as well. He expects them to offer soon. Porter will be in attendance September 4th in Shreveport as Grambling and Louisiana Tech play in Independence Stadium. Porter said he didn't know who to root for, but knew his dad would be rooting for Tech.

It is important to Porter to show the respect to the schools who have offered him, so he does not plan on committing until he can visit them all. The schools left on his agenda are McNeese State and Southern University. Porter couldn't guarantee when he would make a decision but said it could be before schools starts.

He really liked the facilities. Also, but not the most he added, he liked the way the coaches handled everything. Furthermore, he and his mom were impressed with how the players were friendly to them. During his visit, Porter was on campus with an academic advisor and the players would come up to them and say hello and see how things were going.

Porter is a full qualifier and has already submitted his NCAA clearing house forms. Having a cumulative 3.1 GPA and an 18 on the ACT, Porter is focused on his academics. He wants to study either engineering or business management while in college.

Louisiana Tech is sitting in a great position with Porter. Tech needs to sign several defensive tackles in this class. Will Porter be the first commitment to play on the defensive line for La Tech? Stay tuned to BleedTechBlue.com as this story progresses.
