Rebels continue roll with rising Miss. star
Woodrow Hamilton knew he was going to Ole Miss the first time he visited the Oxford, Miss., campus.
Still, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle from Raleigh, Miss., worried about breaking the news to Mississippi State, a program he had grown to like and respect.
Then Hamilton's teammate and cousin, four-star wide receiver Donte Moncrief, committed to Ole Miss. Suddenly, there was no more reason to stall.
"I just wanted to go ahead and tie the knot," Hamilton said Wednesday night, hours after becoming the third prospect to commit to Ole Miss in 24 hours, joining Pascagoula, Miss., cornerback Senquez Golson and Gadsden City, Ala., wide receiver T.J. Worthy as Class of 2011 commitments. "It wasn't real hard (to turn down Mississippi State), but it wasn't easy. It was a challenge.
"It made it easier because I know a lot of people committed to Ole Miss. You know how that goes."
Hamilton, rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, is ranked as the No. 19 prospect in the state of Mississippi by RebelGrove.com. He said the Ole Miss coaches were ecstatic to hear the news of his decision.
"They said they see a lot of good things in me," Hamilton said. "I know I can play good and do good things for them. It's like I was meant to go there. I feel like I can accomplish a lot. I'm real excited. I'm as excited as I've ever been."
Hamilton is the 13th prospect to commit to join the Rebels' 2011 class.
"The future's real bright," Hamilton said.
