Miners hand out offer to DE from Houston

It's that time of the year again and the UTEP Miners are giving out offers to become a piece of their football team in the future. The Miners handed out an offer to a Houston native Defensive End this past weekend. Will he choose the Miners in the coming weeks? Minerdigs.net Publisher Eddie Delgado has the story.

James Rushing, a 6ft 3 in, defensive lineman from Houston, Texas has the name to be a running back. The ironic yet great thing about his name is that his job is to stop the run. Rushing is a defensive end for the Houston Memorial Mustangs and does his job well.

Rushing began to play football in fifth grade when most kids are starting off to play ball.

"Growing up (football) is what I played," said Rushing. "I began to play ball in little league football but I didn't start playing organized ball till freshman year at high school,"

At first Rushing thought the Military might be his calling as he was an Eagle Scout as a 15 year old, but football came calling.

"Being an eagle scout at the age shows a high commitment level..and it shows since I did that early.

Beginning in his four years with the Mustangs, Rushing, has played four different positions and been committed to helping his team out.

"I played Outside Linebacker as a freshman, standup defensive end as a sophomore, and a combination of defensive end, defensive tackle and even nose guard as a junior," said Rushing.

What does this mean for any team wanting Rushing? This means that Rushing a versatile type of player than can fit anywhere on the defense line.

Rushing isn't all about football though, he is about his studies as well. In high school he has compiled a 3.8 GPA and is a part of the National Honor Society.

What are Rushing's plans for this year?

"I want to see how recruiting goes and want to commit early if possible," said Rushing.
Right now he doesn't have any top schools but he is carrying three offers from schools at the moment. Harvard, Air Force, and UTEP are looking for Rushing services as the moment.

Rushing wants to play a weak side end in college he's just waiting to see at which one at the moment.
