DT, Scarpinato has solid interest in Black Knights

As the summer reaches the July mark and commitments are becoming more of the norm, Mark Scarpinato list of probable schools are also becoming more defined. GoBlackKnights.com had opportunity to chat with the defensive tackle prospect to discuss Army and his overall recruiting.

Although Scarpinato has yet to establish a list of his favorite schools, he did take time out to discuss two schools in particular; both Army and Michigan State for whom he has offers from.

So where do the Black Knights fit into Scarpinato recruiting plans as they unfold for the summer and into the 2010 season? "I like the idea of Army and I love West Point … it's the best school in America," he shares. "It's something that is very intriguing to me."

As such, the 6-foot-3, 260 pound defensive tackle is weighing the option of taking an unofficial visit to Army versus an official visit. "This could be a good time to take an official visit in July," states Scarpinato.

"But Coach Ross (Joe) said that they sit back and wait … and they don't start their official visits until January. But I do want to check West Point out … maybe sometime in July."

Michigan State - It also really intrigues me too and I have a good relationship with Coach Salem.

It was great to get the Michigan State offer and the only offer I received from attending a camp," shares Scarpinato, who received his offer from the Spartans two weeks ago. "It's like I really earned it after my performance at their camp."

Even with seven offers on the table, the 3-star tackle understands that a player's recruiting status with a school can change from one day to the next.
Right now I don't think I have a scholarship with Indiana anymore," says Scarpinato, as he confides his thoughts with GoBlackKnights.com.

"I think they have filled up their spot at defensive line, although I haven't heard from my coaches, but Donte Phillips just committed there … he plays at Homestead High School."

Cincinnati and Stanford have a pretty full class , so I don't think there will be a scholarship for me. Northwestern … I'm still waiting there, so I'm not sure and Wisconsin said they want to wait until my senior year."

Scarpinato has camped at Cincinnati, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Stanford and Northwestern this summer and according to the defensive tackle, his camp participation is now in the rearview mirror and it's time to focus on his senior season. For Scarpinato and his teammates at Milwaukee (Wisc.) Marquette University High School, August 8th is the team's first official high school practice.

"Now it's great to be back with my team, be a leader and make a decision," he says, as talks about the calendar that he has set for himself to make his college decision. "I've said before that July 25th is my timeframe. But everyday that I get closer to that day, I second guess that date, which is our five day football camp. Michael Trotter (former high school teammate) committed (Wisconsin) that day last year and it worked out well for him, where he didn't have to think about colleges after that point."

Having schools such as Army (West Point), Stanford and Northwestern showing interest, it is clear to see why Scarpinato places a premium on his studies. "Academics are number one for me and I am looking for a school that will challenge me in that area as well," he confirms.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Mark Scarpinato's recruiting throughout the summer and his senior year.
