Dallas Lincoln LB Wants To Visit SMU

Dallas Lincoln linebacker Devante Davis' first offer came from SMU more than two months ago. Now, the talented recruit has been getting plenty of attention and has received many more offers.

"Right now I just have two official offers on paper," said Davis. "Those are from SMU and Louisiana Tech. I also have some other schools that have told me they were offering but I have not gotten anything in the mail from them."

The other schools that have verbally offered Davis are Colorado State, East Carolina, Memphis, Morgan State and Utah State. While those schools have yet to send an official offer in the mail, Davis is not worried.

"I have been talking to all of those schools since they told me they were offering. I have never asked why I don't have the offer in the mail. I am not concerned about it. They said they were going to offer so I will take their words for it."

One other school that appears to be in the mix for Davis as well is Baylor who Davis says he will visit soon. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder also plans to visit one other school this summer.

"I am going to go down to Waco for the Baylor camp on the 17th and then I am going to Louisiana Tech on the 24th."

Davis is also trying to make it to the SMU campus before the month is over.

"I have been talking to coach Mason a lot. We have been trying to find a time for me to come to SMU for me to see the campus but we have not had any luck so far. I have been pretty busy with some family matters and other things. I think I am going to be able to visit sometime this month though."

As of right now, Davis says that he has been able to pick out three clear favorites out of the schools that he is talking to.

"I would have to say that my favorites are Baylor, SMU and Louisiana Tech without a question."

Even though the Dallas native has yet to see the Hilltop he has heard plenty about it from a friend.

"One of my friends ran track for SMU. She has been telling me a lot about it. She told me that it was a good place to make friends and a really fun campus. She was also telling me about the academics there and how good they were."

The fact that Davis has a friend to attest to the academic standards of SMU could be beneficial in the end as the talented linebacker says that academics are the most important factor in his decision.

"The most important thing to me is academics. If anything happens and the NFL does not work out I want to have a good degree that will let me get an excellent job."

While Davis has been able to narrow it down to three main schools at the moment he still says that it could be a little while before a decision comes.

"I want to make a decision during my senior year. Hopefully during the first couple of weeks. I thought about waiting until the end of the season but I think I will have my mind made up before that."
