Hawkeyes add big DE

After quietly collecting ten scholarship offers this spring, Pennsylvania defensive end John Raymon decided to end the recruiting process today. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Raymon returned from a visit to Iowa City this week, talked things over with his family, and then jumped on board with the Hawkeyes, giving the Iowa coaching staff his verbal commitment.

Q: Did you commit to Iowa today?

RAYMON: Yeah.

Q: How did that all come about?

RAYMON: Well, Iowa has been recruiting me for a while. A couple of those schools in that area have been like Michigan, Illinois, and Purdue. I went out to Iowa on Monday, came back and talked it over with my parents, and then decided. I was thinking about committing to maybe NC State, Purdue, or West Virginia, but Iowa was the best one out of all of them, so I picked Iowa. I like it a lot there.

Q: What other offers did you have?

RAYMON: Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Pitt, Rutgers, West Virginia, Maryland, NC State, and Cincinnati.

Q: What was it about Iowa that you liked so much?

RAYMON: They have top of the line academics and really good football. Plus, in the Midwest, everybody is real nice and relaxed. It's not like in the city where everything is all fast and people don't really care about you. At Iowa, they took the time to show us every little detail and I was impressed. Their players are quality people too.
