Wisconsin DT gets Spartan offer

This past weekend at the Michigan State 1-Day Camp, defensive tackle Mark Scarpinato put in a strong performance. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect was able to showcase his skills in a variety of ways. SpartanMag.com was on hand to not only watch the Marquette University High School product in action, but we also caught up with him afterwards when he informed us of the good news.

Defensive tackle is one of the primary recruiting needs for Michigan State in the class of 2011. Head Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff are going from coast to coast looking to find players they believe can help them win Big Ten Championships. On Saturday they were able to evaluate several potential defensive tackle prospects and Scarpinato rose to the top of the list and received a Spartan scholarship shortly afterwards.

"Michigan State offered today (Monday)," Scarpinato stated. "I really enjoyed it at Michigan State. The coaches were great, the facilities are great and I really like the campus too."

Scarpinato already had a solid list of scholarship offers heading into the camp. We asked him his thoughts about where the Spartans stand and how many offers he has in all.

"That makes 10 offers," he said. "It feels really good to get the offer from Michigan State. I am really excited about it. The coaches said they loved my motor and I had the athleticism to match. The camp was tough, but it was definitely worth it."

SpartanMag.com watched the defensive line prospects in action extensively on Saturday and Scarpinato was constantly working hard and giving maximum effort. He had some excellent battles with several of the top offensive line prospect that are also legitimate BCS prospects. On several occasion Scarpinato and the offensive linemen kept battling even after the whistle. It is that type of intensity that coaches like to see.

Adding a player like Scarpinato would be an strong addition to the 2011 class. New Spartan Coach Brad Salem serves as his primary recruiter and he is a working the Wisconsin area hard. In years past, Wisconsin has come into Michigan and nabbed some solid players. Coach Dantonio and Coach Salem are looking to level the playing field.

Stay tuned to SpartanMag.com to find out what is next for Scarpinato and what are the chances he ends up in Green and White.
