Spartan Camp Update
As usual the Mark Dantonio 1-Day Spartan Camp was loaded with high-quality players. The camp included a mix of committed players, prospects that have a Spartan offer and those looking to earn a scholarship. SpartanMag.com has the details.
The committed players:
Lawrence Thomas was in attendance but did not workout. Thomas was doing his usual mingling around with some of his future teammates as well as players he hopes to be teammates with.
Taiwan Jones was also in attendance, but did not participate. Jones participated at the Sound Mind-Sound Body Camp the past few days. As many have stated Jones is physically as impressive as anyone. He looks to be close to 6ifoot-4 and said he is around 215.
Connor Cook was at the camp and participated. Cook showed the skills that made him an early offer. An interesting fact was that Cook was invited to the Elite 11 Finalist Camp, but declined due to wanting to be in East Lansing instead. He indicated that he committed to Michigan State and being a Spartan took precedence.
Andre Sims Jr. was up from Georgia and though we did not see an extensive amount of him, what we saw was impressive. He runs precise routes and has very good hands. He seems to operate well in tight spaces and showed a solid burst off the line. I thought he had a little Agim Shabaj look about him, though not as shifty.
Onaje Miller was also there, but not participating. Miller indicated that he is nursing a hamstring and did not want to risk it. Quick observation on Miller is that physically he is as impressive as any RB MSU has signed since David Richard. Miller is 5-foot-10, 190-pounds of muscle. He is what you expect a college running back to look like, not a junior in high school.
The offered players:
A few players arrived at camp with a Spartan offer in hand and just wanted to have the chance to be on campus again and build rapport.
DeAnthony Arnett was able to make it to East Lansing. Arnett participated in the Sound Mind-Sound Body Camp so he just observed. Connor Cook was probably most disappointed as he wanted the chance to throw to him. Cook is hoping that he gets the chance to do that in the future a lot.
Shaquille Petteway was on campus and not only did he perform well, but h got plenty of attention from the Michigan State staff. Petteway is listed as an outside linebacker in the rivals database, he will almost certainly end up playing safety at the next level in our opinion. Look for much more on Petteway and his recruitment in the near future.
