Orange going after OT McAvoy
Offensive linemen are the heart of most recruiting classes. This year the Syracuse Orange look to have a big focus on the line. One prospect that has caught their eye recently is Kyle McAvoy from Bloomington (Ill.) Bloomington High School.
McAvoy, 6-foot-5, 295 pounds was one of the latest offensive line prospects to receive an offer from the Orange. The Syracuse offer however caught McAvoy off guard.
"They offered me a couple of weeks ago. It was a little unexpected because I have hardly received any information from them up until I got the offer. It was definitely a good thing though."
Syracuse has not been in contact with McAvoy until about a month ago, but at the beginning the contact the Orange staff was quick to make an impression on the prospect.
"I have talked with Coach Wheatley on the phone and the offensive line coach, when he gave me the offer. A couple days ago every coach up there it seemed sent me a hand written note," McAvoy said. "The relationship with Syracuse started when he gave me that first initial phone call. We talked about my tape and then I talked with the offensive line coach. Other than that we have not communicated much, a little on email, but not a whole lot."
Now with an offer in hand from the Orange what does McAvoy think of the Big East program.
"Syracuse seems like a good school. The football team seems to be one of those on the rise programs right now. They are in a good conference and they play quality football."
As it stands right now McAvoy is holding twelve offers and he is starting to think about visits. Nothing has been made official yet, but he does want to try and get to Syracuse.
"As we are starting to get into the summer my family and I have been talking about making visits to the schools that have offered me. Syracuse is definitely on that list because it is in a good area so I want to check that out."
A decision is not expected to come soon, but McAvoy does not want to drag it into the school year if possible.
"I am looking to make a decision by the time my football season starts, start of August."
Before he makes that decision though there will be a few items that the school will have to have.
"When I am looking at a school I will look at a few things. First off is the quality of education because it is about getting the degree. Then after that it would be the coaches and how they are with people, their coaching style and the people associated with the program. After that comes the football the competition between the conference and national contending. Finally the last thing is the campus and how that is as a whole."
