Lumpkin adds offer talks SU

The state of New Jersey used to be one of the top areas for Syracuse football recruiting, recently though it has not been as kind as years past. Despite the low numbers of commitments from the state Doug Marrone is looking to change his fortunes in the state. One New Jersey product the Orange are looking at is Keith Lumpkin.

Lumpkin, 6-foot-8, 295 pounds was offered by Syracuse a few months back. When he was offered he was caught off guard by the news.

"I was kind of surprised because I did not know that they were interested in me at the time."

After getting the offer the Garden State product admitted he did not know much about the Orange. He did however know a little about their past season.

"I really do not know much about Syracuse. I just know that they had a young team last year and they lost a lot of close games."

Syracuse is sending one of their first year coaches to New Jersey to recruit the big offensive tackle.

"It is the receiver coach Rob Moore that is recruiting me. I have not talked to him recently, but he came into the school to talk with my coach. I am not sure what they spoke about."

A visit to Syracuse has not been set up as Lumpkin has not finalized his summer plans yet. He does know two schools that he will see this summer though.

"I plan on visiting Florida and Georgia."

In the past few months Lumpkin has also visited a handful of programs that have offered him.

"I have been to Rutgers, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia."
Recently the offensive tackle prospect added one new offer from the Big Ten.

"I just recently picked up Michigan State. I was shocked because I did not know that they were going to offer. They came in a few times and spoke to my coach about me."

Illinois is another program that could enter the mix for Lumpkin soon.

When it comes to on field play that sets Lumpkin apart from others he talked about two parts of his game that give him an advantage.

"I just get off of the ball very aggressive and fast and that gives me an advantage."

A decision from Lumpkin is not expected until National Signing Day.
