Poehlmann narrows his list
After narrowly missing out on a state championship last year, 4A Brenham returns several Division I prospects this year and is looking to make some noise in their new division. Heading up that list is Brenham left tackle, John Poehlmann, talented lineman who sounds to be very close to making a decision after narrowing his list down to three.
"Baylor, Colorado State, and Rice in no order," Poehlmann said when asked who his favorite schools were currently. "With Baylor, I really like Art Briles and the staff. They've had a lot of success up to this point other than last year when Robert Griffin went down. At Houston he had a lot of success even before Baylor."
"With Rice, you're getting a great education. The fact that the degree is worth so much means a lot to me, but then again so does Baylor's," Poehlmann added. "Colorado State was the first to offer and they have really been after me, trying to get me since day one."
A member of Brenham's varsity squad since his sophomore year, Poehlmann started out as a tight end and fullback in middle school until eventually moving to left tackle where he earned his first start last season as a junior.
"I think I did well last season. I will say that I was kind of light - probably 225," Poehlmann said. "Now I'm up to 255. I've been eating almost constantly, probably about four or five times a day. I'm doing it the right way, though, only eating good food and gaining good weight."
Poehlmann plans on camping with Baylor, Rice, Texas A&M, and TCU this summer and plans on ironing out plans for visit to all three of his top schools in the very near future.
"Hopefully I will have made a decision within the next two or three weeks," Poehlmann said. "I'm going to start calling coaches from all three schools today to start setting up visits so I can see the schools, meet all the coaches, and make a decision based on it all."
