Wallace Enjoys Chance to Compete

Few players showed up at last Sunday's TCU NIKE camp with more notoriety than Dallas Skyline linebacker Anthony Wallace. The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker came to compete with numerous players who'd love to have one offer much less a list that includes USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Notre Dame, and many others.

Wallace arrived with a lot of hype but came in, took instruction and did more than enough to prove himself worthy of the recruiting attention. But how did he felt he performed throughout the lengthy camp?

"I think I did pretty good. Got to see a lot of competition and see where you are at," Wallace said. "Endurance (was key), you know it was long and in covering one on ones I got better.

"I had up and down moments but overall I felt I did good."

Of course such a camp is more about finding areas for improvement than gloating about any successes achieved. For the skilled prospect he says the camp was a crash course on some of the fundamentals of the game.

"Personally I always got to get better using my hands and defeating the blocks. When I am out here, its kind of staying low and keeping my feet moving," he said.

While he may not have needed the camp Wallace clearly enjoyed the chance to participate.

However, the competition was merely a small reprieve from the upcoming spring evaluation and contact periods that will see coaches from across the country try and get his ear. One coach that has already done a good job of building a bond with the Lone Star State standout is Sooner defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach, Brent Venables.

"I always call coach Venables. We always talk. We message on facebook and stuff like that," he said.

There are rumors swirling about that Wallace, and his teammate Franklin Shannon, could be leaning to the Sooners or are simply on the verge of a decision overall.

"Right now, I'm just trying to learn more about all of the schools. I am pretty much wide open right now."
